The Multnomah County District Attorney is responsible for prosecuting state felony and misdemeanor charges in Multnomah County and for prosecuting all city code crimes in the city of Portland. Michael D. Schrunk has been the elected District Attorney (DA) in Multnomah County since 1981. The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office (DA's Office) has over 200 staff members, including attorneys who are appointed to serve as Deputy District Attorneys. A Deputy District Attorney (Deputy DA) has the same qualifications and functions as the DA. ORS 8.780
