The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office Youth Project Safe Neighborhoods program targets youth gun and gang crime and aims to reduce the incidence of such youth violence in Multnomah County. It is carried out through a three point strategy consisting of aggressively prosecuting youth gun and gang crimes, partnering closely with gang-focused law enforcement/probation, and collaborating with community organizations to educate parents and youth on gang prevention and Measure 11. The strategy is implemented via a dedicated community-based youth gun and gang prosecutor. In addition to traditional courtroom prosecution, this strategy locates the prosecutor in the community to integrate collaborative responses to youth gun and gang crime by meeting with youth, parents, and several community organizations to educate on youth violence prevention.
