Crime Prevention and Outreach

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office is dedicated to working with our community partners in on-going crime prevention and community outreach efforts.

Gang Impacted Family Team (GIFT):

The Gang Impacted Family Team (GIFT) coordinates services for individuals and their families in the effort to break the intergenerational ties that perpetuate gang involvement and violence in the community. GIFT is a multi-disciplinary team including representatives from the Portland Police Bureau, City of Portland Mayor’s Office of Youth Violence Prevention, Multnomah County Department of Human Services, Multnomah County Department of Criminal Justice, Multnomah County Health Department, Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, Multnomah County’s Local Public Safety Coordinating Council, and representatives from community faith-based organizations.

The goal of GIFT is to implement gang suppression, intervention, and prevention for youth and adults impacted by gang involvement and violence.  GIFT effectuates this by implementing a focus on the individuals who are the most entrenched in the gang life style and pose the greatest risk to the community.  GIFT partners work to immediately address the lifestyles of these gang members by navigating the various resources available, and connecting them to existing services in an effort to keep them crime free and prevent the cycle of intergenerational gang involvement.  GIFT partners also ensure accountability for those engaging in gang violence through information sharing and suppression efforts, while simultaneously supporting gang members who desire to leave the gang lifestyle.
