CASE: 23CR55517 October 15, 2026
Portland, OR-Multnomah County Circuit Court Celia Howes sentenced 35-year-old Michael Paul Ayles to 35 years in prison on October 14, 2026.
A Multnomah County jury found Ayles guilty of Sodomy in the First Degree and eight counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree during a trial in late July of 2026. Ayles later pleaded No Contest to another count of Sodomy in the First Degree. The sodomy charges carried a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison under Oregon’s Jessica’s Law for certain sexual abuse charges involving a child victim under the age of 12.
Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Mihnea Moga prosecuted the case for the state. After the sentencing he said: “We thank the victims in this case for their bravery of coming forward and helping in holding the defendant accountable for his actions that secured this prison sentence. When someone takes advantage of the vulnerable, we are committed to seeking justice, ensuring the victims’ protection, and righting what has been wronged.”
The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank Detective Todd Christensen and the Portland Police Bureau Child Abuse Team for their excellent investigative work on this case.
The DA’s Office would also like to highlight the work of MCDA Victim Advocates who give care and compassion to crime victims.
THE FACTS:
In 2022 three sisters disclosed to their mother that Ayles had sexually abused them while the mother was away and he was babysitting them.
Two of the girls said the abuse began when they were between the ages of four and five years old; the third child said the abuse began when she was five or six years old.
One of the children recalled a specific incident that happened when she was 11 years old, but Ayles isolated and subjected the girls to consistent traumatic sexual advances and abuse throughout their childhood.
