Effective May 6, 2024, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office (MCDA) is transitioning from providing physical discovery to providing discovery through eDiscoverybyKarpel by ProsecutorbyKarpel (PbK). PbK will allow for the electronic distribution of nearly all discoverable materials via a unique, secure link.

This means that, as of May 6, MCDA will no longer be providing physical discovery or sending through Box.com.

When we have discovery for you on a case, here’s what happens:

• Our staff will create PDF file(s) of the printable discovery and send the PDFs and other files, such as audio or video files, to the discovery server hosted by our vendor in Microsoft’s secure AzureGov cloud storage.
• Our system will then indicate that the discovery was sent, along with the date sent to you.
• You will receive a NO REPLY email from the system (not from the staff at MCDA), indicating that there is eDiscovery available for you. The email will include the defendant’s name and court number. There will be a LINK for each file that you can click to open or download the file.

As we make this transition, we are making some changes to our payment process and our fee schedule. The updated fee schedule simplifies a majority of the billing practices and is in line with fees charged by other Oregon prosecutors’ offices. MCDA will send out an invoice monthly to the defense attorneys and/or firms to the email address we have on hand or the address listed in the OSB directory.

Invoices will be sent to the Office of Public Defense Services (OPDS) per the existing schedule.

Make sure that you flag the email address “noreply@hostedbykarpel.com” as an approved sender in your email application or that your email server accepts emails from the address: noreply@hostedbykarpel.com.
