Multi-Disciplinary Child Abuse Team

The District Attorney’s Multi-disciplinary Child Abuse Team (MDT/CAT) is responsible for reviewing and coordinating all child abuse and neglect cases in Multnomah County. The unit complements Unit D and Juvenile in this regard. It is part of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of representatives from law enforcement, public schools, hospitals, courts, health departments, the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS), and the Oregon Department of Employment Child Care Division. The MDT/CAT unit handles child homicides, felony child physical abuse cases, felony child abandonment cases, custodial interference cases (where the custodian of the child is DHS), felony sex crimes where the victim is currently under the age of 18 and where the perpetrator is considered a family member. Additionally, the MDT/CAT unit handles Juvenile Court dependency cases that correspond with an adult criminal case described above.
