DA Mike Schmidt announces arraignment of suspect in Lents break-in and fatal shooting
PORTLAND, Oregon – Today Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that Shaka Imani Chambers, 46, was arraigned today on three charges, Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Burglary in the First Degree with a Firearm – Constituting Domestic Violence, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm.
The charges stem from an alleged incident on September 4 at an apartment located in the area of Southeast 90th Avenue. The victim in this homicide is identified as 27-year-old Juan Carlos Artiles. The Medical Examiner determined the cause of death as a gunshot wound and the manner of death a homicide. The Artiles’ family is asking for privacy at this time.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Domestic Violence Unit is committed to ending family abuse. The unit engages in evidence-based prosecution of domestic violence. It emphasizes the importance of victim advocacy services for all victims and their children.
