DA Mike Schmidt announces attempted murder suspect charged

PORTLAND, Ore. – Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that Abukar Sharif Sheikh is charged with attempted murder, attempted assault in the first degree and unlawful use of a weapon following a shooting that occurred in April 2020.

This investigation started on April 02, 2020 when Portland Police responded to the area of Southeast 106th Avenue and Southeast Division Street on reports of shots fired.

The affidavit to support the issuance of an arrest warrant, which contains details about the ongoing investigation, remains sealed. The court found the release of this information could jeopardize the investigation or the safety of one or more witness.

On April 14, 2021, members of the Portland Police Bureau located and arrested Sheikh in the West Beaverton neighborhood of Washington County.

Sheikh is scheduled to appear in Multnomah County Circuit Court on April 15, 2021.

No additional information can be released by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.

A charging document is only an accusation of a crime. Sheikh is innocent unless and until proven guilty.
