DA Mike Schmidt announces guilty verdict for Gregory Eyler on robbery and assault charges

April 5, 2023

Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt today announced that a 12-person jury found Gregory Eyler, 29, guilty on five counts:

  • Robbery in the First Degree
  • Robbery in the Second Degree
  • Assault in the First Degree
  • Assault in the Second Degree
  • Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle

On October 26, 2021, Portland Police officers responded to a report of a carjacking in the Delta Park area. The victim was at the side of her vehicle when an accomplice threw her to the ground and got in the driver’s seat. The victim reached through the window, grabbed the steering wheel, and tried to remove her keys. Eyler entered through the passenger side and lunged at the victim, telling her to get out. Eyler then stabbed her multiple times in the arm, and the accomplice began to drive away. The victim attempted to hold onto the steering wheel and was severely injured in the process.

The victim in this case was houseless. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office thanks the Portland Police Bureau for their collaboration in helping to serve this member of a vulnerable population. MCDA is committed to seeking equitable outcomes in the pursuit of justice, no matter the circumstances of victims.

Sentencing for Eyler will be scheduled at a later date.
