DA Mike Schmidt announces Kalin Duffee, 29, arraigned on seven firearm-related charges
PORTLAND, Oregon – Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced Kalin Anthony Duffee, 29, was arraigned on seven charges on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 including Attempted Assault in the First Degree with a Firearm, Assault in the Second Degree with a Firearm, four counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm, and Coercion with a Firearm.
The charges stem from an incident in the area of Southeast 90th Ave and Southeast Flavel Street on May 11, 2022. A person known to Duffee alleged that he had been on a “multi-day alcohol bender” and expressed suicidal thoughts and the intent to shoot and kill victims at random. Duffee allegedly said that he felt others were out to get him and that in the event he was contacted by police he would shoot at them. Portland police officers initially responded to the area Duffee was in but left due to the risk of use of force and made contact with Duffee by phone.
Duffee was allegedly in the area of Southeast 90th Ave and Southeast Flavel and was in possession of a firearm. Subsequent reports from multiple witnesses alleged Duffee shot at vehicles, yelled and screamed, blocked traffic, and stuck the hoods of cars that passed by. Duffee sustained a gunshot wound in the course of the incident. He allegedly stowed his firearm in a fanny pack on his person. A witness removed the fanny pack from Duffee and the Portland Police Bureau Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) approached Duffee and took him into custody.
Firearm shell casings collected from the area the incident took place were consistent with the firearm recovered from Duffee upon his arrest. Duffee was subsequently treated for his gunshot wound. He is currently in custody without bail.

A charging document is only an accusation of a crime. Duffee is innocent unless and until proven guilty.
