Suspect in Gresham homicide charged with murder, abuse of a corpse

PORTLAND, Ore. – Today, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that 43-year-old Lewis Phillips is charged with the alleged murder of 58-year-old Mark Whitaker.

Phillips is charged with one count of murder in the second degree and one count of abuse of a corpse in the first degree.

Both the charging instrument and probable cause affidavit in this case are sealed pursuant to a court order.

This investigation started on March 18, 2021 at approximately 3 p.m. when Gresham Police received information about a possible homicide in the 16400 block of Northeast Glisan Street.

On March 19, 2021, Gresham Police located and arrested Phillips.

No additional information can be released by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office at this time.

A charging document is only an accusation of a crime. Phillips is innocent unless and until proven guilty.
