“My thoughts are with Freddy Nelson’s family in the wake of this tragedy. We will work to prevent anything like this from happening again,” stated DA Mike Schmidt. While this incident produced tragic results, it is not the only example, locally or nationally.
While on the line with the Bureau of Emergency Communications Center, a man, misidentifying himself as “Jason” took over the call and claimed the female caller was on drugs and falsely asserted there was no gun in the residence. The same female yelled out the name “Davonte Donahue” before the 911 call abruptly ended.
“A lot of things have to happen in a person’s life before they pick up a gun and decide to shoot another person. These cases are difficult and frequently overlap with domestic violence, addiction, and easy access to guns. The fight both upstream and downstream is critical,” said MCDA prosecutor Kate Molina, who brings 9 years of experience to the office.
“The racially problematic history of Ramos is well established, and the inevitable tendency of a non-unanimous verdict-based system to silence dissent and shorten jury deliberation is itself justification enough to require urgent legislative action.” Knott stated.
Upon return of a “not true bill” (see press release) in this matter by the grand jury, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion with the presiding court to create and release a transcript of the grand jury proceedings recorded pursuant to ORS 132.260(1).

“This plea agreement accomplishes everything my client wanted out of this case. His biggest concern was that Mr. Drennan acknowledges and takes responsibility for his abhorrent behavior; he never wished him ill-will or wanted him to go to prison, nor did he want to testify at a trial.” Stated Josh Lamborn, the victim’s private attorney.
“Every time there is a homicide in Multnomah County, our office is called to the scene and many times victims require an advocate present during the life of a case. When we interact with victims, the last thing we want is for them to worry whether or not they are at risk of contracting COVID-19.
