The case was presented by two Multnomah County Deputy District Attorneys and two Assistant Attorneys General appointed by the Department of Justice at the request of DA Schmidt. The grand jury heard from over 25 witnesses and listened to two days of evidence and testimony.
A warrant for his arrest was signed today by a Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge.
“As I and everyone in my office work diligently to review the facts and evidence of each shooting, issue charges, and prosecute, we hold two infallible truths closest to our hearts and minds: victims deserve justice and harm cannot and will not go unaccounted for.”
“I had a choice to make. I had to choose between allowing myself to remain Mr. Harrison’s victim or stand-up and become a survivor of his actions. I chose the latter… After today I will be able to move on. I get to spend my life healing and finally being set free.” Waldron concluded.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office (MCDA) is proud to publish these data dashboards during Black History Month given that ending racial and ethnic disparity in the criminal justice system is among the express objectives of these data.
“Shortly after the murder occurred, I recall being in the St Johns neighborhood and there being signs posted on the telephone polls in honor of the victim in this case. He was a strong member of the community up there…the loss of him in our community is really beyond words,” Senior Deputy District Attorney Todd Jackson stated at sentencing.
“This loophole diminishes the ability of the prosecution to move forward on a case with all competent evidence, which in turn reduces the ability of a victim of sexual assault to pursue justice.” MCDA Policy Director Aaron Knott stated.
Cox appeared to be angry, carrying a hatchet in one hand while his other hand was balled into a fist. A cyclist passed Cox and he began to chase them. The cyclist observed Cox chasing him and rode away to avoid him at which point Cox threw the hatchet at the cyclist, nearly hitting him.
“This should have been a routine stop of a suspect operating a stolen car. Instead, Mr. Dahlen caused needless harm to a Portland Police Officer to avoid accountability for his actions.” Senior Deputy District Attorney Todd Jackson said.
“The Bias Crime data dashboard is intended to stand in stark opposition to acts of hate while providing a practical tool for policymakers, leaders, and the communities most impacted by bias crimes.” DA Schmidt stated.
